IMC 802 - Health Care in Response to a Pandemic This 4-week elective will focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as it relates to three specific content areas: COVID-19, Telemedicine, and Scientific Literacy. Students will spend 4 weeks engaging in various activities within the online learning environment with an optional pathway to participate in experiential service learning opportunities within the local health system. Course content will include 1) understanding the clinical management and biomedical aspects of COVID-19 and the societal impacts of a pandemic; 2) Changes in service delivery through telemedicine and how to effectively provide care remotely; 3) foundations of scientific literacy and the role it plays in the reponse to a pandemic. Students will be expected to complete the synchronous and asynchronous online core content while also engaging in a variety of activities in a self-identified pathway (options may include service learning, epidemiology, basic molecular biology, pharmacology/therapeutic agents for new disease).
